The Island of Brac is situated about 12 km (7 miles) from Split and from the mainland. It is the third largest island in the Adriatic, with an area of 396 km2. Since it belongs to the area of the Mediterranean climate with short and mild winters, and long and sunny summers, Brac is very convenient both for winter and summer tourism.
The island has a population of 13,000, living in numerous little towns, ranging from the main town Supetar,
with more than 3,500 inhabitants, to Novo Selo, where only a dozen people live.
Other towns and villages on the island are Supetar, Bol, Pučišća, Sutivan, Sumartin, Postira, Milna,
Mirca and many more. Brač offers numerous opportunities for walks and excursions on the island: Blaca desert,
Vidova Gora (its tallest peak, Mount St.Vid stands at 778 m), Zlatni Rat, Museum of Brač in Škrip, stonemasonry school in Pučišća etc.
From the top of Mount St. Vid spreads a breathless view on the slope of the south side of the island,
the town of Bol and the famous beach Golden Cape (Zlatni rat) as well as on the islands of Middle Dalmatia.
At high visibility even the Italian coast may be seen.
The economy of Brač is based mostly on tourism, but fishing and agriculture (especially wine and olives) are
very important too, as is its precious white stone which was used in building Diocletian’s Palace in Split.
Historically, Brač was famous for goats. Island of Brač produces about half of the Dalmatian olive oil production.
During summer months, Bol has excellent links with all larger European cities.
The Brac Airport is located about 10 km from town of Bol. Croatia Airlines, and other European air-carriers offer
very favorable seasonal flights to both Bol and Split, since the Split Airport is also close to Bol.
Other option for arriving to the island of Brac is from the city of Split with by ferry boat.
The Town of Supetar
The Town of Supetar lies on the northern side of the island of Brac. It is a main town on the island of Brac, with a population of more than 3000. It is also the island`s largest and fastest growing town. Being very well-connected with the mainland city of Split through a direct, 45 minute long, ferry line with more than 14 trips daily during summer. Supetar is an ideal destination for all those who are looking to benefit from the monumental heritage and natural beauties, enjoying at the same time the charms of a small island town. Coolness and rest from the hot sun can be found in shadows of the Mediterranean pine and cypresses growing right by the sea. We could say that Sutivan is an ideal place to get away from the stress and noise of a big city.
The Town of Sutivan
is a small town of the original Dalmatian architecture, located by the sea of the Northwest coast of the island Brač. This tranquil little town with around 600 inhabitants is elevated on the gentle slopes that are amphitheatrically surrounding its beautiful harbor. Its lovely walking alleys and gardens, as well as carefully decorated yards abundant with Mediterranean vegetation and flowers. Towards the west there are more than twenty unique bays and beaches of different size.
The Town of Bol
Situated in a secluded place, on the southern coast of Brac, Bol is also one of the most famous destinations in Croatia. Once upon a time Bol was a settlement of wine-growers, fishermen and sail men, and today it is primarily a tourist settlement well known for its beach of Zlatni rat (Golden Horn), a great windsurfing place. Zlatni rat beach extends like a small tongue nearly half a kilometer into the clear blue sea. Bol has also many other beautiful beaches.
